Ruby's backstory
Ruby is a 7-year old fawn Pug who was recenly diagnosed with cancer. Sometime in mid-june Ruby went in for a yearly exam and they asked to do some base-line bloodwork on her. Unexpectedly, the results came back that she had a low albumin level in her blood. Albumin is one of the proteins in blood. Also at this time she began to have some mouth trouble. She was not eating as actively as normal. With pugs normal means being always on the lookout for the next meal. We took her in to our vet and found that she had several new abcesses and needed some more extractions. Too many teeth in too small a mouth. The extractions were performed and we brought her home to recover. Another set of bloodwork showed that her albumin levels were still dropping. Shortly after this she began to lose her appetite. Clearly this was not normal and we began to look for a cause. Yet more bloodwork showed nothing wrong with her liver or kidneys. Then she started having diarreah and some vomiting. We agreed with our vet that it was time to do some exploratory surgery and biopsies. During surgery a 2cm tumor was found in her jejunum. A 7cm section of her intestine was removed and sent in for testing. The results were less than encouraging. Ruby was diagnosed with Type B intestinal lymphoma. Thus began her journey through chemotherapy and the reason for this blog. To my wonderful friends who have supported Ruby and her humans during this time, thank you and let's do this together. I have never written and only seldom read anyone's blog so forgive me for any mistakes here.
